Invasive is not an equivalent term for exotic. Exotic species are those species which are nonnative. Invasive species are a subclass of exotic species which have been shown to have a negative impact on native species. The coconut palms and orange trees of Florida are both exotic, but not considered invasive.
Interesting study though!
